Reading: A Changing Planet

Section 3
angielski-ćwiczenia-interaktywne
In many parts of Asia, the weather is very humid. Every year, the “monsoon” season brings heavy rain. When it rains for weeks, the rivers overflow. This causes a flood. Water enters houses and covers the streets. People often use small boats to rescue their neighbours.
monsoon = season of heavy rain overflow = river has too much water rescue = save someone from danger
Każdego roku sezon monsunowy przynosi obfite deszcze. Gdy pada przez tygodnie, rzeki wylewają. Powoduje to powódź. Woda wchodzi do domów i zalewa ulice. Ludzie często używają małych łodzi, aby ratować swoich sąsiadów.
natural-disasters
North America has many “fault lines” under the ground. Sometimes, the earth moves and an earthquake happens. If the earthquake has a high magnitude, it is very dangerous. Buildings shake and windows break. People must go under a strong table to stay safe.
magnitude = strength of earthquake shake = move quickly side to side damage = harm to objects/buildings
what-is-drought
In some regions of Africa, it is freezing at night but very hot during the day. Sometimes, it does not rain for two or three years. This is a drought. Without water, the crops die in the fields. Farmers become very worried because their animals are thirsty and have no food.
crops = plants farmers grow thirsty = needing water starvation = suffering from lack of food
