Grammar Focus: Stop & Go on

Czasowniki stop oraz go on znacząco zmieniają swój sens w zależności od tego, czy następuje po nich forma -ing czy to + bezokolicznik.

STOP + -ing Przestać wykonywać jakąś czynność (zakończyć ją). I stopped smoking last year. (Przestałem palić.)
STOP + to + verb Zatrzymać się (przerwać inną czynność), aby coś zrobić. I stopped to buy some milk. (Zatrzymałem się, żeby kupić mleko.)
GO ON + -ing Kontynuować robienie tej samej rzeczy. He went on talking for hours. (Mówił dalej bez przerwy.)
GO ON + to + verb Przejść do robienia czegoś nowego (kolejny krok). After introducing himself, he went on to explain the rules. (Przeszedł do wyjaśniania…)

Wpisz odpowiednią formę czasownika w nawiasie: -ing lub to + verb.

Structure (Struktura) Meaning (Znaczenie) Example (Przykład)
MEAN + -ing Oznaczać coś, wiązać się z czymś (konsekwencja). Getting this job means moving to London. (To oznacza przeprowadzkę).
MEAN + to + verb Mieć zamiar, planować coś zrobić. I meant to call you, but I forgot. (Miałem zamiar do ciebie zadzwonić).
Verbs of Perception (see, hear, feel, watch, notice)
See someone + do (bezokolicznik bez ‘to’) Widzieć całą czynność (od początku do końca). I saw him cross the street. (Widziałem, jak przeszedł na drugą stronę).
See someone + -ing Widzieć fragment trwającej czynności (w trakcie trwania). I saw him crossing the street. (Widziałem go, gdy przechodził – był w połowie).

Wpisz odpowiednią formę czasownika: -ing, to + verb lub podstawową formę (bez ‘to’) w przypadku czasowników zmysłów.
