What Is Paraphrasing?
Paraphrasing means saying the same thing in a different way. On the egzamin ósmoklasisty and Matura, you often see two sentences with a gap — your job is to fill the gap so the second sentence means exactly the same as the first one, using a different structure.
| Original | → | Paraphrase |
|---|---|---|
| My friend is American. | ⇄ | My friend comes from America. |
| Are you good at singing? | ⇄ | Can you sing? |
| This is my book. | ⇄ | It’s mine. |
• The meaning must stay 100% the same — don’t add or remove information.
• Most exam gaps allow a maximum of 2–4 words — check the instructions every time!
• Watch grammar that changes with the rewrite: verb forms, word order, possessives, and articles.
